Chris Reinecke // Art Is Necessary

The first monograph of Chris Reinecke (*1936) presents works from 1955 up to the present and introduces a work of a lifetime which is straight and uncompromising in its artistic approach, social responsibility and practical realization. The artist passed through different steps of artistic production. Each one of these periods involves new forms of expression and is closely connected with social-political commitment. Reinecke’s conceptual ideas for a new definition of the art/audience- relation marked a very innovative and influential position during the 1960s and 70s in West Germany.
